Don't Forget the Islands

Enjoyed attempting this brain game which involves remembering the 196 countries of the world (it fills in the neighboring countries of those you enter, so it’s easier). Especially difficult for an untrained infidel such as myself (“Did you know the globe.. rotates? There’s this whole other side back here…”)  Embarassingly managed only 107 of 196 first time around, and neglected the United Kingdom completely (bloody ‘ell). Try it and tell me how you fared.

Now Boarding…

After loading up on liquid courage (in my case, a single beer), my friend Barry and I hopped on the lift and managed to fall down the slope.  We did everything required for the first run, such as: falling off the lift upon exit, falling on heelside, falling on toeside, falling with style, … Luckily there was no falling into the trees or large “padded” metal lift columns.  Somehow we survived it.

It wasn’t until the second time up the slope that things really came together.  We managed to stay ‘on board’ while exiting the lift, managed controlled stops, and put together something that looked semi-professional (until an inevitable fall/stop). The only thing holding either of us back was the foot strain of holding a toe edge stance for so long.

I’m excited for next winter in hopes of tearing it up out there with the rest of you.

Update: Acquired the Summit Vale Pass and ready for the winter season! :)   Thx, Chel~

No Doze

zzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzZZZzzzzzI read this somewhere else, but here’s a WebMD article pertaining to the same results. The bright displays of monitors, phones, and tablets can keep you awake later at night much like the effect of drinking coffee. It explains the last 20 years of my zombie-like existence really.

Luckily, my brother introduced me to a program that can help.  It’s a free program called F.Lux that alters the screen color temperature to fit the time of day.  Instead of bright whites at night, you’ll get cozy with a softer yellow tone.

The result can be distracting for the first few minutes, but you’ll find the searing pain that your eyes were experiencing will disappear. I know a co-worker of mine that will spend an hour or so altering the background color in office applications and the operating system for just this purpose.

And for my friend Sherri who sometimes experiences this, here’s some proof you’re overworked:

Myokymia [--referencing Wikipedia, I know.. I know..]

“…Myokymia is commonly used to describe an involuntary eyelid muscle contraction, typically involving the lower eyelid or less often the upper eyelid. It occurs in normal individuals and typically starts and disappears spontaneously. However, it can sometimes last up to three weeks. Since the condition typically resolves itself, medical professionals do not consider it to be serious or a cause for concern….”

CAUSES: “Frequent contributing factors include: too much caffeine, high levels of anxiety, fatigue, stress, overwork, overexposure to computer/television monitors, and a lack of sleep. Use of certain drugs or alcohol may also be factors.”

Sixty-Seven

…the number of times around the parking lot I went with my good friend before I could get a handle on driving a manual transmission. She remained patient while I was more and more convinced that the vehicle was undriveable.

Star Wars: Extreme Fan Makeover

Fans of (old school) Star Wars have made a hopefully entertaining remake of Star Wars: A New Hope.  Ten seconds at a time, shot-for-shot fan-made clips weave together to form the movie.  Actually entertaining, perhaps made better with mind-altering drugs.

Time Lapse

Really great set of clips of city scenes showing the ebb and tide of day to day life.  Perhaps more impressive are the clips at the end showing a few nature scenes and the sky moving across.  Worth watching~
